Since He Apparently Forgot to Lock the Door

...proof in action that it does not, indeed, pay to be a loyal officer in Starfleet, nope.  CE and 2nd Officer, to glorified security guard, in one not-so-easy step.

McCoy found Scotty - his Scotty - lurking outside the very door that he himself had been lurking outside a little while earlier, and he surmised that the unfortunate Scotsman must've, at some point, encountered the same sight that he did. At any rate, he was glad to see the CE of his own universe.

"Scotty? How the Devil did you get here?" He glanced to the now-quiet room that he was apparently standing guard outside of, and hoped to Hell that things hadn't taken a turn for the worst since he'd interrupted before...to be honest, he was pretty damn worried about the whole difficult situation.

"Came here to try'n rescue the Captain and Mister Spock," Scotty replied, jerking an agitated thumb in the direction of the door. "And found a scene out of a Roman orgy in progress." He eyed McCoy for a moment, eyebrows knitted briefly in worry. "Are ye all right, Doctor? Ye look a wee bit pale."

McCoy shook his head lightly and ran a hand over his eyes briefly, hissing quietly through his teeth before nodding.

"I'm fine. Just...I walked in on the same scene. Caught me off guard a little." He'd been trying to track down Jim ever since - something told him he had kind of a right to know, seeing as it was Spock and his alternate self and all, but there'd been no sign of him as of yet.

He gestured to the door with his head. "All gone pretty quiet. Are they, er...is it all over in there, d'you know?"

"Near as I can tell, Spock got hypo'd into oblivion and the one lad he was with went off with the other fellow, who proclaimed himself a doctor, because he was in rough shape." Scotty nearly mirrored McCoy's gesture, falling to rubbing at his eyes for a moment before giving the good doctor a look that definitely contained a plea, even if a subdued one. "Tell me ye know what's goin' on?"

"Well, I'm afraid I don't know much more than you, but...as far as I can make out, we've skipped a universe or two and ended up in our own alternate one - the two kids you saw were technically me and Jim." He shook his head helplessly. "I don't know the physics of it, but...anyway, the move threw Spock into a premature pon farr and, well..." He gave a small shrug. "You yourself saw what that led to."

McCoy leant against the wall opposite the engineer, arms folded over his chest, a frown deeper than his default one creasing his forehead. He wasn't at all surprised to hear the alternate Jim was in less-than-perfect shape...still, at least an unconscious Spock couldn't do any more damage.

"I tell you, Scotty, this place is more trouble than it's worth." Maybe it was just him being grouchy, but he couldn't remember any problems of this particular nature and escalation back on their Enterprise, even when Spock had hit pon farr there...and they'd had their share of problems...

His eyebrow went up high at the notion that it was Jim Kirk who was in there with Spock, nevermind McCoy -- that was even stranger than the mirror universe, frankly. After a moment of peering off past the floor, lost in thought, Scotty picked his head up again. "I dinna even know the physics of it, but I know that I left our Enterprise under Sulu's command, with Uhura actin' as XO and told 'em to break free o' whatever's tetherin' us to this ship if they could." Be there no doubt that the notion of that was a whole lot more painful than he'd let on.

"As for this place...." Scott shrugged. "I'm inclined to agree. I shouldna just be able to board a starship without any kind o' security response, but I walked here on my own without so much more'n a couple o' glances. Then the last I heard o' Captain Kirk was that he was in hot pursuit of someone or another." He paused briefly, and bit on his lip for a moment of uncharacteristic pensiveness. Scotty might have been an engineer and not exactly social or outgoing, but he was definitely observant. "D'ye suppose the Captain... our Captain... and him... ye know? I mean, would that put an end to this nonsense so we could concentrate on goin' home?"

McCoy lowered his eyes to the floor briefly, knowing the implications of what Scotty had told Sulu and Uhura. Still, if they could find a way to get loose, then they should, no doubt about that...

He glanced back up at the next statement, chewing his tongue thoughtfully. "I don't know...might do, I guess. I mean, if there's anything at all that might sort some of this mess out..." McCoy was an intelligent man academically, but it was true that sometimes social situations just got far too convoluted for him to comprehend. Usually in those said situations, he would just follow in the wake of others and accept their explanations, but when everyone else seemed otherwise incapacitated, there was little he could do but be rather horribly confused.

"I don't know, just when things seem to be settlin' down, you go and land in an alternate universe...I always suspected we were the only two sane fellows on board, Scotty. Looks like this situation proves it..."

That got a quiet chuckle out of Scott; the notion that they'd be the only sane ones. Not that it hadn't occasionally shown in the past -- if anything, they at least both tended to try to default to common sense in the face of things, and take a measured approach.

In this case, though, even Scotty wasn't sure what good sanity was going to do. Though he could hope. "If ye want to check on Spock and make sure he'll be safe, I'm sure I can figure a way o' lockin' this door down from the outside until we can come up with some sort o' plan to get him, the Captain and then get the Hell home."

Measured approach indeed. Something that some of these kids seemed to have trouble doing...

"I'm sure he'll be fine, for now, if he's sedated as you said." There would be trouble when he woke up, especially if he hadn't actually found a bondmate yet, but for now...

"In terms of the Captain, though, I haven't had sight nor sound of him for a while - I know he's around here somewhere, but..." It wasn't like him not to be around when a situation came up. Not like him at all.

"But not where he should be," Scotty finished, with a grim little edge, crossing his arms. It sort of figured -- displaced on a completely foreign ship where duty seemed to fall somewhere towards the bottom of the 'things to do' list, with a Vulcan desperate to go bond with someone and a captain MIA.

He shook his head, frowning a little. "Here's the million credit question: What do we do?"
